Best Tagine I've Owned
After using a silicone tagine and accidentally breaking a traditional tagine (cracked during use), I love this tagine. It is nice not having to prep and then nurse a traditional style for fear of it breaking. We've had it for about 2 weeks and have used it 5+ times. It heats and cooks beautifully on our stovetop, washes easy, and is very durable. The price is high, but the tagine is definitely worth it.

fab entertaining cookware
Many reviews on tagine cooking sites said this is the tagine to buy....and they were right. I put this up there with my All-Clad French Oven Roaster. Timeless quality, will pass on to my kids, looks beautiful and cooks food on a different level. I would absolutely suggest to buy the 3.7 qt. It's not too big and you will always want leftovers (if you have any). You also need the space to brown the meat without overcrowding. It browns food very nicely and cooks it quickly and evenly and tender. Only problem is storage-I leave it on my cooktop, but the outside gets dirty. Top, top quality product with beautiful design and excellent function. Worth the expensive price-I picked it as a Christmas present from my In-laws.

Easy and delicious food
I bought this for my 22-year old daughter for Christmas because she loves to cook recipes from this part of the world. Fortunately, she is living with us at the moment, so I can enjoy tagine cooking as well! Food preparation is easy -- much as for a crock pot -- but the results are ready to eat in a short time. Food does stick to the bottom in the shape of the flame on our gas stove, but soaking makes it very easy to remove. I'm glad I selected the larger size, even though it made it that much more expensive, because it holds so much more. It would be a shame not to share food this good with friends. There were a couple of minor flaws in the finish of the one I originally purchased, but Amazon exchanged it with no problem, and the replacement was fine.

Product Description

Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, an innovative breakthrough in ceramics technology. Our new line of Burgundy Clay Flame-Top ceramics products work directly on a gas flame or an electric or halogen hob without a diffuser, without any fear of cracking or breaking. Much lighter, (30% lighter), than many types of comparable metal cookware products, Flame-Top is microwave and dishwasher-safe, cleans up very easily, is extremely strong and durable, goes under the broiler, and can go directly from a freezer or a refrigerator to a hot oven to the table, where it will retain the cooking heat for a very long time. Unlike most metal cookware products, Flame-Top cookware can sit on a very hot open flame for an extended period of time without any ingredients in the cook pot, and they will not crack, discolor or break. Perfect for braising, browning and slow cooking due to the incredibly gentle heat distribution properties of Burgundy Clay, Flame-Top products cook evenly and thoroughly when used on top of the stove, in the oven or even in the microwave. Enhancing this gentle cooking action are raised dots on the underneath side of each lid that evenly distribute evaporated juices directly back into the cooking food. This self-basting technique produces a more thoroughly cooked, tender and moist dish than with traditional lids, which force liquids to run down the sides of the pot, and which contribute to even cooking. Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, and better brings out the flavors of all cooked foods. Top to learn more

Beautiful, exotic and functional
In the Le Creuset fashion, this tagine is beautifully and authentically styled. Although original tagines were made of clay, this cast model cooks beautifully and can be used on stove top or in the oven. The unusual funnel shape helps to maintain moisture in the food, and blends the flavors into mouthwateriing dishes. I love the quality of Le Creuset and am very happy to add this tagine to my collection.

Enamel on base had flaked off
I loved using this piece of cookware until I noticed the enamel on the base is flaking off. It wouldn't be a problem if it was on the outside of the base, but it's on the inside, so I haven't used it since noticing. I see everyone else is very happy with theirs, so it might be that I got a defective one. Le Creuset wants me to pay for the shipping to send it back (both the top and bottom piece, even though the bottom is the only part with the problem) so they can evaluate it. It's pretty heavy, so I'm pondering whether to skip the shipping and just move to a different brand and toss this one. Hopefully nobody else will have this problem with theirs. Mine is about a year old, and I've used it maybe 10 times. Update: I decided to return the unit and they replaced it without a problem. I think the shipping was around $20, but hopefully this one won't have any issues. Another update: no problems with this new one. I may have been at fault for the flaking afterall - I had put the...

Product Description

For centuries, North Africa has had access to a myriad of wonderful spices to complement the region's diverse selection of seafood and meats. The traditional method of cooking in North Africa--the Tagine--has been used for centuries to slow cook with these spices. Precious little water is needed to keep foods moist, and the unique design of the Tagine lid locks in the combination of flavors. The base in this model, made of cast iron, works with any heat source: gas, electric radiant or solid plates, ceramic, halogen, induction, and Aga-Rayburn-type stoves. The tall, inverted cone shape keeps the top far from the heat source and from absorbing the heat, and thus stays cool to the touch. Le Creuset has also included many wonderful North African recipes for the Tagine, including soups, main dishes, salads, and desserts. Create a truly traditional North African feast with this amazing kitchen supplement. --Teresa Simanton Top to learn more

Tajine-ius!
I first encountered both Moroccan cuisine and Le Creuset's version of the classic Moroccan tajine in France several years ago. Only upon my return to the United States, however, was my desire for this obscure item finally fulfilled. As is the case with all Le Creuset cookware I've used, the tajine's heavy cast iron base distributes heat evenly and effectively. The tajine is essentially a braising device: the temperature differential between the hot base and the cooler ceramic top causes rising steam to condense, basting the contents as they cook. A simple tajine of chicken and sweet potato with stewed prunes or apricots and almonds produces impeccably moist chicken and well-cooked vegetables each and every time. I've yet to try my hand at lamb, but I anticipate similarly succulent results. The base alone serves equally well for small curries, sauces or stews. My only wish would be for a slightly larger tajine; the two-liter capacity is perfect for two to four people, but would be too...

Great steamer!
I bought two of these tagines--total impulse buy, as we were looking for ways to steam food. They have been an integral part of my kitchen ever since. Spray them with cooking spray, add some fish cut into chunks(we have tried tilapia and salmon thus far), thinly sliced vegetables and spices (I have been experimenting with making my own ras el hanout), put it in the oven at 360, and in 20-25 minutes, dinner is ready!Comes with a small recipe book that suggests microwave use, but we would rather use the oven. Overall, the tagine makes moist, flavorful low-fat, low calorie meals that don't taste low-fat, low calorie!Definitely one of my better impulse buys!

Tagine Review
I use my tagine several times per week. It is a great product for easy to prepare meals. I just put some chicken with fruits, veges, and spices in the tagine and cook for an hour. Then I add couscous to the drippings and have a satisfying meal. The only drawback is the lid doesn't seal with the bottom portion, so the juices often overflow in the oven.

Does the job right
Even though it is not the authentic Moroccan clay Tagine pot it does the job right and makes the right tasting Tagine without a problem... even in our toaster oven. The device may not be useful for the purpose of a show off nor as a conversation piece but it cooks right (if you know how to cook Tagine... or can follow the instructions). This one is small, will hold/cook an American size meal for a couple. If you intend to feed more at the same time, buy a larger size!

A beautiful cookbook with great recipes
Customer Video Review Length:: 3:33 MinsI received a tagine for Christmas and decided to buy Tagines & Couscous by Ghillie Basan as my first Moroccan cookbook. I was so impressed with the photography and the quality of the recipes that I decided to make a video review showing not only the book but also several of the dishes that I made using this excellent, authentic cookbook. I hope that you find it helpful.

Lovely Book, Delicious Recipes
I've had this book for a little over a month now and have made several recipes from it. The finished dishes were absolutely delicious and have gotten raves from my husband, who has never been that fond of Moroccan restaurants. But he just loves the food that comes out of this book. The recipes are nicely adapted to the American kitchen and rely on fresh ingredients. The cooking techniques used are not at all complicated and are pretty easy, actually. You don't need a real tagine to cook in (although the ones made by Emile Henry are really pretty); I use a 4 qt. All Clad saute pan and this is the right size for the recipes in the book. The basic buttery couscous recipe is fabulous and is now the only way I make couscous. No more sticky lumps of couscous. Each grain comes out perfectly separate and fluffy and deeply flavorful. This cookbook is also a joy to read, with excellent commentary on Moroccan cooking and folkways and simply gorgeous photography. I also have her Flavors...

Quality product - great customer service
I recently purchased this at a gourmet grocery store in their culinary arts section. I contacted the maker (Souk Ceramique) and received an email right away. They told me that it does not have a hole because it is a hand-thrown clay piece. The manufactured ones need holes because their tops sit on their bases tightly and the hole is necessary for steam to vent. In a hand-thrown tagine, the steam can vent around the base. Also, to season it - soak it overnight in water. Then allow it to dry, coat the inside with olive oil, and put in a cold oven. Heat the oven to 350 degrees and allow the tagine to heat with it and then leave it for an hour and a half to two hours in there. Don't put it in cold water while it is hot. Let it cool down on its own. If it isn't used often, it should be re-seasoned every few months. I've read variations on the seasoning, but that is the best that I can find for now (some said soak it for one hour in water - other sites said 4 hours). I was...

Love this serving tagine!
This was the first serving tagine I had ever purchased five years ago and I loved using it so much I bought the entire line of Le Souk serviceware from the Cooking.com site. I use this tagine nearly everyday to keep foods hot or cool. Great for hot biscuits or hot breads on the table. Now when using it for outdoor buffets or patio service it really shines. How wonderful it is to serve foods that are bug free and hot or cold which ever you foods place in it. My husband parks this tagine next to his beer on the grill shelf and lifts the lid to toss in the meats as they ready to come off the grill. This allows the meat to rest to retain its juices and all meats are still hot by the time he is done with several rounds of grilling. And what an exotic table it sets. There is a matching collecton of small to large long oval matching serving dishes that really save space in your buffet that makes it easy to create beautiful and unusual table settings. It adds a bit of drama to lift the lid...

Honey is our flagship pattern - it was one of our first designs we made in 1997 when Le Souk Ceramique was started and has become an enduring favorite. The rich honey glaze color makes for a truly phenomenal table presentation. We paint each piece free-hand, meaning we use no decals or tracing or machinery in our production. Each piece is authentically hand-crafted at our studio in Nabeul, Tunisia, just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. Our studio has exemplary working conditions as seen in our videos online (Facebook, You Tube). We use only foodsafe paints and glazes that comply with FDA and California Prop 65, for your health as well as that of our employees. Our earthenware items are suitable for daily use and can be used in the dishwasher and microwave (though the pieces will get hot to the touch). The clay we use for all our Honey items is not refractory, meaning it is not suitable for oven or stovetop. We paint Honey in 31 different shapes and sizes ranging from large serving pieces to place setting pieces to pitchers and serving tagines and small dipping dishes. Top to learn more
